A mixed pollen report in Houston still shows relatively calm levels; mold ramps hard

Pollen seems to be stable across the Houston metro area with relatively modest changes in counts. Despite the high percentage changes of some emitters, it’s a pretty quiet day on the eastern front here.

Pollen:

  • Tree Pollen Total: Increased by 106% from 36 to 74.

  • Grass Pollen Total: Decreased by 41% from 34 to 20.

  • Weed Pollen Total: Increased by 100% from 12 to 24.

  • Overall Tree, Weed, Grass Pollen Total: Increased by 44% from 82 to 118.

Mold:

  • Overall Mold Total: Increased by 53% from 7,324 to 11,190.

Specific Species Changes:

  • Carya (Hickory/Pecan): Increased by 425%.

  • Plantago (Plantain): Increased significantly by 700%.

  • Basidiomycetes: Increased by 85%.

  • Cladosporium: Increased significantly by 130%.

  • Rust: Increased significantly by 1200%.

  • Smuts/Myxomycete: Increased significantly by 579%.

  • Plantago (Plantain): Decreased by 86%.

  • Ascomycetes: Decreased by 31% from 4,860 to 3,377.

  • Smuts/Myxomycete: Decreased significantly by 89%.

These changes reflect a notable reduction in pollen and mold levels across various species, with significant decreases observed in tree, grass, and weed pollen totals, as well as reductions in several mold species, notably Cladosporium and Ascomycetes.
